Lema Ranch, where the Foundation headquarters is located, was purchased by Leah McConnell in the nineteen-seventies as investment property. When it was time to create a permanent home for the Foundation in the nineteen-nineties, Lema Ranch, with its sprawling natural setting, seemed a good fit. Originally a working mule ranch belonging to Chuck & Peggy Lema in the nineteen-fifties, the property’s 200 acres included four man-made ponds, which were restored and improved when the headquarters was developed. The HQ building is roughly 25,000 square feet, with space for Foundation staff to do their work, and meeting space that is shared with the public for meetings, trainings, and board retreats. The public also has the opportunity to enjoy the space daily by walking and running the trails.
